Transforming University Engagement In Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico
Transforming University Engagement In Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico
Universities have the potential to become important resilience hubs for communities “in their own backyards”. As such they can become great partners in disaster response activities. They have the knowledge, the human resources and the physical infrastructure to collaborate with emergency managers and local actors in response activities. However, for the same reasons, they can also be very effective in mitigation activities (such as urban planning processes and the formulation of social policies) as well. This panel brings together different levels of government to address the question of how can we become more effective and entrepreneurial in enhancing community resilience.
