Transforming University Engagement In Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico
Transforming University Engagement In Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico
The community capital framework and the roles of universities in supporting its growth is the focus of this keynote address. Community capital comprises six types of assets: intellectual, social networks, cultural, physical structures, financial, and environmental assets. The joint action of these assets is a platform for greater equity. The framework has been used in several Puerto Rico Community Foundation supported projects and after hurricane Maria it became more pertinent; specific examples will be shared. This presentation will also highlight potential roles for universities in collaborating with communities in the growth of their capital.
