Transforming University Engagement In Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico
Adriana Castillo is an undergraduate student of Political Science at Arizona State University (ASU). She transferred from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Mayaguez Campus after Hurricane Maria in 2017. While pursuing her bachelor's degree in UPR she worked as a research assistant collecting and analyzing data from energy stakeholders in Puerto Rico for the interdisciplinary project Critical Resilient Interdependent Infrastructure Systems and Processes (CRISP-PR) funded by NSF. Now at ASU she worked as an intern for the SolarSPELL project, a Solar Powered Educational Learning Library that provides relevant, localized educational content to resource-constrained locations around the world. She curated content and went to the field to train Peace Corps volunteers and teachers in Fiji. Finally, she also is a student worker at the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy where she provides human resources support to staff, faculty and students. Castillo will obtain her degree in Political Science from Arizona State University this December 2019.
