Mark Lichtenstein is chief of staff, chief sustainability officer, and an adjunct professor at the State University of New York (SUNY), College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), and a faculty associate in Syracuse University’s Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration. He has focused on post-disaster response in New Orleans, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, and is a member of SUNY Chancellor Kristina Johnson’s Puerto Rico Task Force, and Governor Andrew Cuomo’s New York Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery and Rebuilding Initiative. Lichtenstein has led three student-service trips to Puerto Rico since the 2017 hurricanes, and testified to Congress about the federal response to hurricane-related environmental issues. He is a board of directors’ member for the NGOs ViequesLove (formed in Vieques, Puerto Rico, post-hurricane Maria) and Island Green (US Virgin Islands). He served as an expert witness to the federal Environmental Finance Advisory Board, led sustainability centers at Syracuse University, and served eighth terms as president, and is an honorary lifetime board member of the National Recycling Coalition. Lichtenstein has an M.A. in Public Administration and a Graduate Certificate of Advanced Studies in Conflict Resolution from Syracuse, and a B.S. in Environmental Studies from ESF.
