RISE 2019 Conference

Dr. Daniel Meléndez is a senior meteorologist with NOAA National Weather Service, Office of Science and Technology Integration, specializing in tropical and radar meteorology. He recently received the NOAA Administrator Award in addition to other recognitions. He has published over 15 journal peer-reviewed articles and has served as reviewer for scientific journals encompassing atmospheric and space sciences. In addition, he volunteers with National Puerto Rican Agenda leading a project evaluating energy alternatives in the post-María environment for Puerto Rico. He worked as a meteorologist with NOAA in Puerto Rico, and was a research scientist at the Naval Research Laboratory. Prior to that, he was a Senior Research Associate at the University of Alabama, and a National Research Council Associate at NASA-Marshall Space Flight Center. His doctoral research was done at the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center in Puerto Rico. Dr. Meléndez has degrees from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in Space and Atmospheric Science, and from Cornell University in Physics. He is a native of Puerto Rico.
