Professor Ismael Pagán Trinidad is Chair at Department of Civil Engineering and Surveying at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM). His main professional interests focus in teaching and research initiatives to enhance engineering education for Hispanics to create pathways to advanced degrees in engineering which help develop outstanding professionals and entrepreneurs in the nation’s workforce. His main educational research interests have been in Tropical Climate, Hydraulics, Urban Drainage, Mitigation of Natural Hazards, Engineering Education, and Resiliency of Coastal Infrastructure.

He is also part of the DHS Coastal Resilience Center of Excellence (CRC), where he is PI of the Education for Improving Resilience of Coastal Infrastructure project, as part of the Educational Component of the CRC. The CRC, which is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security and co-led by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Jackson State University, aims to develop resiliency for managing the impact of natural events on coastal built and natural environments.

He is the Principal Investigator and Program Manager of the Educational and Research Internship Program under the UPRM-ERDC Partnership Agreement. This internship program promotes in our students the pursuit of graduate studies and careers in research and development, and generates a source of human capital resources for the STEM workforce. He is Cofounder and Member at Large of the Administrative Board of the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Education, an educational consortium that gathers over 100 universities in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean for promoting and enhancing engineering education, research, and collaboration.
