Ethel Ríos-Orlandi, with a PhD in Protein Chemistry from McGill University, is a Puerto Rican Professor at University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. As Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and, later, as Chancellor, she established innovative policies and programs to enhance intellectual endeavor and organizational dynamics at UPRRP. Her excellence in teaching and university management has been recognized by peers and by university authorities. At UPR’s School of Pharmacy (Medical Sciences Campus), Dr. Ríos-Orlandi served as Assistant Dean for the graduate programs; she co-chaired the Committee for Educational Infrastructure of Puerto Rico’s Life Sciences Industrial Cluster, administered by INDUNIV, the national consortium of universities and high technology industries. Organizations such as: the Council of Graduate Schools; former National Association of Universities and Land Grant Colleges (now APLU); Educational Testing Services (two-term member of its research agenda advisory panel), UNESCO’s IESALC; and UPR’s UNESCO Chair for Higher Education have recognized her expertise in higher education. Dr. Ríos-Orland is the elected UPR-RP’s faculty representative to UPR’s Multisectors Committee for the University Reform. She currently Chairs Puerto Rico’s Delegation to IUPAC, where she is Titular Member of the Standing Committee on Publications and Cheminformatics Data Standards.
