Lloyd Treinish works on environmental sciences problems, helping to lead IBM's research and development in these areas.  He is an IBM Distinguished Engineer at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY.  He is a pioneer of scientifically-based services for environmentally-sensitive business operations, including issues related to weather, water, energy, climate and sustainability, which are among his areas of research.  He also works on scientific visualization and data models, where his earlier work established standards in the community.  He joined IBM Research in 1990 after doing related work for over twelve years at NASA/GSFC.  He has authored over 70 scientific papers.  He is a member of the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), ACM Special Interest Group for Computer Graphics (as a Computer Graphics Pioneer), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society, and the IBM Academy of Technology.  He has won several awards from IBM and NASA for his contributions.
