Transforming University Engagement In Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico

Legal Framework of University Interventions: Exploring Policy and Regulatory Frameworks for University Resilience Work that Both Serves Immediate Needs and Creates Models for Change

Time: 2:15 PM - 3:45 PM, November 19

Location: UNH 110 - University Hall

Laws…regulations….policy decisions…all meant to achieve justice … but can they actually do so in disaster situations? On-the-ground lawyers, policy experts, and academics often are called up to provide immediate assistance within existing legal and policy frameworks after a disaster, but are not involved in the later evaluation amending laws to reflect of how law did and could have worked better on the ground and going forward. This panel will bring together legal experts from the academy and in the community to offer ground-truthed reflections on how realities of post-disaster governance can and should be challenged, and perhaps even reconstructed.
