RISE 2019 Conference

Transforming University Engagement In Pre- and Post-Disaster Environments: Lessons from Puerto Rico

Cohort Breakout Session: Researchers and Practitioners Cohort

Time: 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM, November 18

Location: Multipurpose Room/Boardroom - Campus Center Expansion

The purpose of the RISE Conference 2019 is identifying best practises for university’s engagement, collaboration and partnership with other sectors of society that enhance community resilience, facilitate emergency response and management, and mitigate vulnerabilities. During these one and a half hour sessions, each day we will have the opportunity to meet in smaller homogeneous groups to reflect on what has been presented and work on key statements from the perspective of each category of stakeholders represented at the conference: students, faculty/academic researchers/scientists, higher ed administrators, government officials, and the private sector.  Each session will be recorded and facilitated by a RISE ambassador. Student note takers will also try to capture as much as possible from the groups’ perspectives and statements. At the end of the conference, a summary of the discussions will be presented as the foundation for the institutionalization of the RISE interuniversity collaborative network around the issues related to the role of universities in disasters. A more detailed account of the session outcomes will be shared with participants in the following weeks after the Conference.
