Weather Extremes Prediction: Today’s Challenges & the Need to Transition to User-driven Adaptive Modeling for Emergency Management

Time: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM, November 18

Location: PAC Recital Hall

This panel will emphasize the need to provide tailored and adaptive weather and flood risk information to decision makers before and during an extreme weather event. Numerical weather prediction outputs are traditionally (usually due to practical considerations) provided on a static grid at set times. This panel will discuss opportunities for technological advances in modeling, data assimilation including utilization of adaptive grids - all empowered by Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning - to address the needs of decision makers. Emphasis is given to the needs of emergency managers.
