Engineering & Coastal Resiliency: A National & International Imperative: Socio-Technical Approaches To Coastal Resilience

This panel will explore socio-technical solutions for coastal communities when facing catastrophic natural hazards and impacts in the midst of responding, recovery and long term planning. The panelist will focused on socio-technical solutions to respond and recover including but not limited to; effective emergency response, community engagement for immediate response and long term planning, academic participation to accelerate recovery, use of technology to monitor progress on recovery efforts, and quantification of overall coastal resiliency at the local and state levels.   The review will draw from the experiences of catastrophic events such as Hurricanes Sandy and Maria in New York City and Puerto Rico, respectively, as well as from more frequent, however intense events.
